05.26.2025 Inexplicable Magic
Hello dear Friends,
“Those who have long enjoyed such privileges as we enjoy
forget in time that men (and women) have died to win them.”
– Franklin D. Roosevelt
No In-Person Metta Today
It is Memorial Day, a day off from work, yes,
but most importantly, a day for honoring and remembering
those who died in service to our country.
🌿
It's a time of inexplicable magic: green sheets fill our windows, schools are coming to a close, graduations are nearing, birds are architecting nests from fluff and found stuff. Gardens and summer are about to sprout with color and blooms, and our bones remember the call too: "Come, come out and play! Be home before dark. Get drunk on fireflies and long summer nights of stars and nothing to do!"
I look forward to practicing with you next week, Monday, June 2.
A deep bow of gratitude,
Wini

🌸 Two Poems to Share
a song with no end | Charles Bukowski
when Whitman wrote, "I sing the body electric"
I know what he
meant
I know what he
wanted:
to be completely alive every moment
in spite of the inevitable.
we can't cheat death but we can make it
work so hard
that when it does take
us
it will have known a victory just as
perfect as
ours.
Credo | Alfred Kreymborg
I sing the will to love:
the will that carves the will to live,
the will that saps the will to hurt,
the will that kills the will to die;
the will that made and keeps you warm,
the will that points your eyes ahead,
the will that makes you give, not get,
a give and get that tell us what you are:
how much a god, how much a human.
I call on you to live the will to love.
🌿 As of late, I have been tumbling into ‘credo’ poems.“Credo” is Latin for, literally, "I believe", rooted in faith, “creed”.
As of late, I have been writing down my own credo, my “I believe….”.
Poet or not, I wonder what would you write?
Another credo poem that called into my soul is by Judith Roche. Click here.
🌸 Three Quotes | James Low. Anselm Grun. Fred Rogers.
“I have been filled with hopes, fears, despairs, longings, happiness. Expansive moments, contracting moments. All of these fluctuations have at one stage been called "me." — James Low
“The monks of Mount Athos believe that the only reason why our world has not already disappeared in dust and ashes is that people continue to pray all over the world and that not a single moment passes without someone addressing God in prayer.” — Anselm Grun
“When I say it's you I like, I'm talking about that part of you that knows that life is far more than anything you can ever see or hear or touch. That deep part of you that allows you to stand for those things without which humankind cannot survive. Love that conquers hate, peace that rises triumphant over war, and justice that proves more powerful than greed.”
— Fred Rogers, listen in his own words click here (1:27 min)
🌿 This quote came from 2002 Dartmouth commencement address. Read here
A gem of clips to watch The best of Mr Rogers: Encourages silence. Gives an expression of care. “What do you do with the mad that you feel” advice. Be present in the moment with the person you are with. Graceful Receiving. (9:48 min)
"Our society is much more interested in information than wonder, in noise rather than silence...And I feel that we need a lot more wonder and a lot more silence in our lives." – Fred Rogers
🌸 Something to Watch 📽️ | Knit, Laugh, Love by KarmaTube
Oh my goodness, in this complex time sometimes the best medicine is joy!
Watch this short video– The Ladies of Sandoy Island in the Faroe Islands covered a massive rock with a knitted blanket, the Troll Women, reminding us that life doesn't always have to be serious.
Sometimes, simply gathering with friends, sharing laughter, and doing something that seems a little bit silly, but is actually quite profound for the heart– is exactly what we need in our chaotic times. Watch here (5:25 min)
🌸 Something to Read. Listen. 📚 🎧 | “Wear Sunscreen”
“Keep your old love letters. Throw away your old bank statements.
Be kind to your knees. You’ll miss them when they’re gone.”
– Mary Schmich
It's that time of year again: commencement speeches!
Some are inspiring, some are tedious, and some truly knock it out of the park, becoming iconic not just for the speaker, but for their message. One such gem begins with a simple directive: "Wear sunscreen."
Mary Schmich's "Wear Sunscreen" essay, originally published in the Chicago Tribune in June 1997, went viral for its humorous and practical life advice. This hypothetical commencement speech even inspired Baz Luhrmann's hit spoken-word song, "Everybody's Free (To Wear Sunscreen)," which is how many, including myself, first encountered it. Over two decades later, it's still fabulous, rock solid advice, filled with wisdom and truths to live by that apply today…read here.
“…sing, dance, floss, and, of course, wear sunscreen.”

🌸 Closing Song 🎶 | Humee Hum Brahm Hum, We Are One.
This chant, mantra, keeps humming in me, opening me, reminding me over and over, we are one. A sharing with you, may it offer you light, ease and peace in your heart. May we be undone remembering, we are one. ✨
Lyrics:
We are we and we are one.
We are we and we are one.
Humee Hum Brahm Hum.
Humee Hum Brahm Hum.
Listen on YouTube (6:50 min) or Spotify (6:50 min)
🌿
“May you know your elegance
rooted in the well of your bones.
May goodness walk with you
in these complicated times, keep joy near.
May you allow kindness to bring you
to your knees, to prayer, to hope.”
Have a blessed day,
Love, Wini 💖
