09.15.2025. Dialing Up Magic

Hello dear Friends,

“You went out in search of gold far and wide,
but all along you were gold on the inside.”

– Rumi

For when people ask—

Also the title of a poem by the gorgeous Rosemerry Wahtola Trommer. Did you get your ticket yet? She'll be here in two weeks! See below and/or ✍️ Sign up here (3 ticket prices available).

“We sat in patches of light, reciting favorite poems, letting tears find soft ground, letting human bones grow roots and wings. We fell hard. We fell in love. We let ‘good’, ‘be nice’ go. We let things bubble out from under our skin. We let our eight-year-old selves (who know how to dial up magic) speak. We rolled, tumbled and sat still in the fields of our patterns (that we all have) that run our lives amok, that run us full circle right back to ourselves (for our patterns derail us and teach us how to unmake them), right back home to our heart where our gold resides—the indestructible beauty that shines brighter than any star, that can never be destroyed, not even by us. It was glorious (hence, the closing song below).

We gave fire—our cares and dreams as kindling, asking it to warm us, to bring us messages, and burn away what no longer serves— especially the unkind lies we tell ourselves, the faulty beliefs (not good enough, unworthy, unlovable) made out of air, despair, and salty tears. We let flame and smoke carry our prayers.

We let ‘adapt,’ ‘yes,’ and ‘oh sweetheart, I am here’ and ‘I pick you first’ become mantras of compassion and self-love. We became a breathing poem, a living, beating heart made of ten stanzas—one for each woman there, for each heart brutally opened by beauty, by brokenness, by the Holy, and by the willingness to risk. But, the last line (where the poem surprises you) is still unfolding, I can't wait to read it– one day soon.”

For when people ask, how was your Women’s Fall retreat this past weekend.

🌸 Two Poems

Milk and Honey | Rupi Kaur

“...stay strong through your pain
grow flowers from it
you have helped me
grow flowers out of mine so
bloom beautifully
dangerously
loudly
bloom softly
however you need
just bloom.”

The Prayers | Rosemary Wahtola Trommer

When I asked the world to open me,
I did not know the price.
When I wrote that two-word prayer in the sand,
I did not know loss was the key,
devastation the hinge,
trust was the dissolution
of the idea of a door.
When I asked the world to open me,
I could never have said yes to what came next.
Perhaps I imagined the waves
knew only how to carry me.
I did not imagine they would also pull me under.
When I asked the world to open me,
I had not imagined drowning
was the way to reach the shore.
The waves of sorrow dragged me down
with their tides of unthinkable loss.
The currents emptied my pockets
and stripped me of my ideas.
I was rolled and eroded
and washed up on the sand
like driftwood—softened.
I sprawled there and wept,
astonished to still be alive.
It is not easy to continue to pray this way.
Open me.
And yet it is the truest prayer I know.
The other truest prayer,
though sometimes I long to run
from its truth, is Thank you.

🌸 Three Quotes  | Francis Weller. Mark Nepo. Martin Shaw

"The work of the mature person is to carry grief in one hand and gratitude in the other and to be stretched large by them." — Francis Weller

“Over time, we age into a stillness that breathes like stone, exposed beyond resistance.” Mark Nepo

“Become a prayer-maker. Why? Because what you face in your life is bigger than you can handle. It is. Go to a place with shadows and privacy, and just start talking. There is some ancient Friend that wants to hear from you. No more dogma than that. Use your simple, holy, words. Then sit. Listen. Go for a walk. Let in.” — Martin Shaw

They wrote the book, Midlife Upgrade: A Girlfriend’s Guide to Finding Your Power in the Pause, and now they're bringing it to life with Menopalooza: The Midlife Party You’ve Been Waiting For. This is the ultimate midlife celebration, featuring real talk, real fun, and a whole lot of power in the pause, with Dr. Kelly Casperson and other leaders in the movement. Join the party, Sunday September 28 – Get Your Ticket

🌸 Closing Song 🎶 | Glorious by MaMuse

If you are not acquainted with MaMuse music ("Ma" as in "Mamma," "Muse" as in "the one who inspires"), check out this gorgeous, good medicine for the heart: "Harmonic, Uplifting, Folk-Soul-Revival; A Musical Tune-Up for the Heart."

This was the last song played to close out my Women’s Fall Retreat this past weekend. It seemed glorious to offer to each of your hearts too, and what a four-days it was, filled with tender prayers, tears finding soft ground, and hope and healing blooming bright.

And what a day this day, today, is too—glorious!

Put your headphones on, let your bones soak in the lyrics, let your heart soak in believing, let your spirit feel its roots and wings, and the body can't help but to start to move! The lyrics read as a poem too

🎶 Listen on YouTube Here or Spotify Here (5:19 min)

Oh what a day! Glorious!
Gather 'round
There's nothing better
Than a friend
Oh what a day! Glorious!
The smell of rain
Has hitched a ride
Upon the wind
I've got good friends
To the left of me
And good friends
To my right
Got the open sky above me
And the earth beneath my feet
Got a feeling in my heart
That's singin'
All in life is sweet
Oh what a day!

Home is believing
Home has wings of faith
Home is a clear river
Of perceiving
All is well
This is a friendly mystery

🌸 In all Mystical traditions, there is a closing prayer – prayers of blessing, gratitude and protection.

May I be at peace.
May my heart remain open.
May I awaken to the light of my own true nature.
May I be healed.
May I be a source of healing for all beings.”

― Joan Borysenko, Pocketful of Miracles
